Recognition and Control of Insects
and Related Pests of Orchids

Dr. Newton's presentation covered major orchid pests relevent to growers in the Southeast - how to recognize them and various ways to control them. Dr. Newton is a professional entomologist who currently heads the Control Program for Mosquito and Insect Transmitted Diseases for the state of North Carolina. He has been growing orchids for 40 years.

Laurence Walker won the Best Show and Tell prize for February 2002 with his unusually-colored Oncidium Sharry Baby. The prize was an orchid seedling.

Doug Oswald was a First Bloom contest winner with this Hawkinsara Koolau Sunset 'Hawaii' from Carter & Holmes. The prize was a blue ribbon and a $25 check.
